UWE Bristol’s Skills Pathway Programme offers you a flexible way to develop the skills needed to drive your career and business forward. You will focus on the challenges and opportunities you currently experience at work, enabling you to add value to your organisation and boost economic growth in your region.
You will choose from a range of pathways to best suit you and your organisation. See the impact of your learning in your organisation right away and be guided by industry experts throughout.
About the programme
The Skills Pathway Programme is delivered through a range of short modules which can be tailored to fit your needs and around your commitments.
The combination of needs assessment, training, and mentorship has been carefully designed to allow you to take advantage of opportunities and tackle real-world challenges at work.
At the end of the programme, you will be awarded the UWE Bristol digital badge to enable you to demonstrate your learning. Depending on your development plans, you may wish to progress your learning and take it to the next level through further training or support activities.
Our pathways
Specialised industry
For individuals from the engineering and manufacturing sectors who wish to develop their skills and capabilities to support the integration of digital technologies in the workplace. This pathway will focus on digital design and manufacturing, digital twins and smart factories, applied artificial intelligence and data analytics.

Sustainability
Supporting the construction industries and built environment sector. This pathway will focus on developing retrofit capabilities around practical measures and best practice, and surveys, thermal improvement and moisture risk and assessment, evaluation, and new technology of services.

Collaborative working
Supporting individuals working in the legal services sector. This pathway will develop skills and best practice around collaborative working and effective communication with colleagues and clients, utilising key office-based technologies (for example Microsoft365, Doc-u-sign etc.)

Leadership
Aimed at individuals in a leadership or management position from all sectors (manufacturing, engineering, construction or legal). This pathway will develop strong leadership skills in inclusive leadership to managing remote and hybrid teams to drive the region’s businesses and economy from strength to strength.

How we support you
The Skills Pathway Programme focuses on supporting you to address your specific requirements while fitting around your work and life commitments.
Needs assessment
The initial consultation is an opportunity to engage with one of the team to identify the opportunities and challenges we can focus on in your organisation. In this meeting, we’ll agree on some objectives so we can work towards your individual and organisational priorities.
Flexible modular training
Our training options span over 25 different subject areas ranging from leading sustainable change through to applied AI in engineering, and are all delivered to fit around your existing commitments. You will learn through online self-study, available 24/7, tutor-led sessions linking you with industry experts, as well as studying with peers both in and outside of your sector.
Mentoring
A key part of the Skills Pathway Programme is our mentoring sessions, that offer you access to up to five hours of specialist one to one support with a sector expert. These sessions will support you to apply your new expertise to overcome the challenges you face in the real-world business environment.
Eligibility
You can apply to take part in the programme if you:
- live in the West of England (Bath and North-East Somerset, Bristol, and South Gloucestershire)
- work for an SME organisation in the manufacturing, engineering, construction or legal sector.
We especially welcome applications from individuals who are underrepresented in these industries, including women and black and ethnic minority groups.

Funding
UWE Bristol are working in partnership with the West of England Combined Authority to deliver the Mayoral Priority Skills Fund. This fund provides a flexible grant to meet current priority skills gaps in the region and is funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
