Global: Our research spans and can be applied to multiple countries, relating to current, and historical worldwide issues.

Crime: Our research analyses a wide spectrum of harmful, antisocial, and unlawful behaviours.

Justice: Our research explores and promotes the practice of social, economic and restorative fairness and the administration of laws and social norms to ensure individuals or groups are treated appropriately and equitably.

Security: Our research investigates the systems put in place to maintain safety, stability, and resilience in the context of individuals, communities, corporations and countries.

Led by Dr Mary Alice Young, the GCJS Research Group is a leading socio-legal hub that welcomes diverse and interdisciplinary research on all aspects of crime, social justice and security at national, regional and international levels. Our work is innovative and policy-relevant, shaping legal reform, informing public debate and driving real-world change. As our membership grows, so do our areas of expertise, spanning topics as diverse as banking insolvency in India and media reporting in criminal courts.
