We want to ensure that all students and staff have the support they need to play a full part in the life of the University and to fulfil their potential.

The objectives and actions set out within the Single Equality Scheme action plan will help us realise our aims and ensure that equality and diversity is embedded in everything that we do.

Support for staff with caring responsibilities

The University has a Carers’ Leave Policy (staff login required). This covers paid leave for carers to be with their dependents in unforeseen situations. Carers are expected to make their own arrangements where they know in advance that care will be needed. A dependent is a partner, child, parent or other relative who lives with you or for whom you are the main carer.

There is also a Flexible Working Policy and Procedure (staff login required). Carers may be able to apply for a change to their working hours to enable them to care for a child or other dependent.

Faith and spirituality support

Our Faith and Spirituality Team offer opportunities for students and staff to explore and practice faith and spirituality. You can find places for prayer and worship, space for private reflection, opportunities to meet others, and advice on spiritual and ethical concerns.
