Connect with others

It's the people that make UWE Bristol. And it's those people living together, learning together and supporting each other that makes it such a great place - you're never on your own. But we're all strangers at the start of term, and lots of people would do just about anything to avoid an awkward conversation. But those interactions will help you feel part of a community. So, while it might be tempting to avoid awkward social situations, just remember that everyone is feeling the same way - sometimes it just takes a smile. If you're there for others, then they'll be there for you too.

How can you be the difference to yourself and others? What does this mean in practice for you? Remember to be kind to yourself and be kind to others.
Who supports you now? Talk to them and decide how you're going to keep in touch. A text every day or a phone call once a week. Whatever you decide, it's your choice, but having a plan will help you settle in while still being connected.
Where will you get support you may need from the University? Check out UWE Bristol's support services on the students' web pages. Make sure you refer back to this page whenever you need a question answered. Or, you can always visit an Information Point, if you'd rather speak to somebody.
