Configure your device for eduroam
If you have been unable to connect to eduroam with your UWE Bristol username followed by @uwe.ac.uk and your UWE Bristol password, you will need to configure your device.

iOS
To configure iOS for eduroam:
- Select Settings
- Select Wi-Fi
- Select eduroam
- Enter your UWE Bristol username followed by '@uwe.ac.uk'
(for example, an2-other@uwe.ac.uk) - Enter your UWE Bristol password
- Click Join
- Accept the service certificate by selecting Trust
- Click Accept.
If you made a mistake and need to reset it:
- Select Settings
- Select Wi-Fi
- Select eduroam
- Select Forget This Network
Android
To configure Android for eduroam:
- Select Settings
- Select Network & Internet
- Select Wi-Fi
- Select eduroam
- EAP method: PEAP
- Phase 2 authentication: MSCHAPV2 (may be under the 'Advanced' menu)
- CA certificate: Do not validate ('Do not specify' on some devices)
- Identity: enter your UWE Bristol username followed by '@uwe.ac.uk' (eg an2-other@uwe.ac.uk)
- Anonymous identity: [leave blank]
- Password: enter your UWE Bristol password
- Click Connect.
If you made a mistake and need to reset it:
- Select Settings
- Select Network & Internet
- Select Wi-Fi
- Tap and hold eduroam
- Select Forget.
Windows
Your computer will need to be able to use the security type WPA2-Enterprise to connect to eduroam.
To configure Windows for eduroam:
- Select Settings
- Select Network and Internet
- Select Network and Sharing Centre
- Select Set up a new connection or network.
- In the 'Set Up a Connection or Network' window, select Manually connect to a wireless network and click Next.
- In the 'Manually Connect to a wireless network' window, enter the following details:
Network name: eduroam (must be lowercase)
Security type: WPA2-Enterprise
Encryption type: AES
Security Key: blank
- Ensure the Start this connection automatically and the Connect even if the network is not broadcasting boxes are ticked and click Next to continue.
You should have 'Successfully added eduroam'. - Select Change connection settings. An 'eduroam Wireless Network Properties' window will open.
- Ensure the properties settings are set as follows:
Name: eduroam
SSID: eduroam
Network type: Access point
Network availability: All users - Ensure the Connect automatically when this network is in range and Connect even if the network is not broadcasting its name (SSID) boxes are ticked, then click OK.
- Click on the security tab. Ensure the following properties are set:
Security type: WPA2-Enterprise
Encryption type: AES
Tick the Remember my credentials for this connection each time I'm logged on box. - Click on settings. In the 'Protected EAP properties' window, ensure Authentication Method is set to Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2) and the Verify the server's identity by validating the certificate box is not ticked.
- In the same window click Configure... to see the EAP MSCHAPv2 Properties. Ensure the Automatically use my Windows login name and password (and domain if any) box is not ticked, then click OK twice.
- Back in the 'eduroam Wireless Network Properties' window, click the Advanced settings button.
- Tick the Specify authentication mode: box and in the drop-down box ensure User Authentication is selected.
- Click Save credentials and enter your UWE Bristol username followed by '@uwe.ac.uk' (eg an2-other@uwe.ac.uk) and your UWE Bristol password, then click OK.
- Click OK (as required) to close all windows.
- Select the wifi symbol in the system tray (next to the time and date). Choose eduroam from the wifi list and select Connect.
Mac OS
Your computer will need to be able to use the security type WPA2-Enterprise to connect to eduroam.
To configure Mac OS for eduroam:
- Select wifi from the taskbar
- Select eduroam
- In 'The Wi-Fi network "eduroam" requires WPA2 enterprise credentials' window, enter the following:
Mode: Automatic
Username: your UWE Bristol username followed by '@uwe.ac.uk' (for example, an2-other@uwe.ac.uk)
Password: your UWE Bristol password
Click Join - In the 'Verify Certificate' window, click Continue
- Save to the certificate to your keychain in the 'You are making changes to your Certificate Trust Settings' window, by entering your own Mac/iCloud username and password.
To delete previous connection information:
- Go to Finder
- Select Applications
- Select Utilities
- Select Keychain Access
- Search for entries named eduroam or radius and delete them.
Ubuntu
To configure Ubuntu for eduroam:
- Tick Enable wifi
- Select eduroam
- In the 'Wifi Network Authentication Required' window, enter the following detail:
- Authentication: Protected EAP (PEAP)
- Username: enter your UWE Bristol username followed by '@uwe.ac.uk' (eg an2-other@uwe.ac.uk)
- Password: enter your UWE Bristol password
- Tick Ask for this password every time
- Click Connect
- In the 'NetworkManager Applet' window:
- Tick Don't warn me again
- Click Ignore
- In the 'Authenticate' window, complete the following:
- Password: enter your laptop password
- Click Authenticate.
Connect with another device
The settings below are in the approximate order you will be asked for them. For each setting, some alternative names are given. Some mobile devices provide more than one option; the most preferable is listed first in the table. Each particular device may not ask you for all of the listed settings, so just use those you are asked for.
