Installing eduroam CAT
If you have been unable to connect to eduroam with your UWE Bristol username followed by @uwe.ac.uk and your UWE Bristol password, you will need to install the eduroam Configuration Assistant Tool (CAT).
About eduroam CAT
To connect to eduroam, download and install the eduroam Configuration Assistant Tool (CAT).
Important: For new devices, we recommend downloading the eduroam CAT tool before coming to campus. A wired, wifi or mobile data (4G/5G) connection is needed for installation.
Once the eduroam profile is set up, you can automatically connect to eduroam hotspots across the globe without sharing your personal details.
Use your UWE Bristol username followed by ‘@uwe.ac.uk’ and your UWE Bristol password.
Install eduroam on AndroidThe eduroam CAT is available for Android, Apple iOS, Apple OS X (Mac), Microsoft Windows, Chrome OS and Linux. Check the eduroam CAT website for supported versions.

Step-by-step guide
- Go to https://cat.eduroam.org or scan the QR code:
- Click the eduroam installer button:
- Search for UWE or University of the West of England and select if from the list:
- Select Apple Device:
- Select Allow for the website to download the configuration profile
- If prompted, select your device
- Once the 'Profile Downloaded' pop-up appears, select Close
- Go to Settings and select Profile Downloaded:
- Select Install:
- If prompted, enter your device passcode/password
- Read the 'Consent' information and select Next
- Select Install and confirm Install:
- Enter your UWE Bristol username followed by '@uwe.ac.uk' (for example, an2-other@uwe.ac.uk)
- Enter your UWE Bristol Password
- Select Join
- Select Done.
That's it! You are now connected to eduroam.
How to remove an eduroam profile
If you change your UWE Bristol password or made a mistake during the eduroam CAT install, you will need to remove the profile and re-install it:
- Select Settings
- Select General
- Select Profile:
- Select Remove Profile:
- Now re-install the profile from Step 1.

Step-by-step guide
Please note: if using an Android 11 device and having connection issues, install the geteduroam app from the Google Play store as an alternative.
- Remove any previous eduroam connections by going to wifi settings
- Long press eduroam
- Select Forget network:
- Go to Google Play and search eduroam CAT
- Install and Open the app
- Select Allow or turn on Manual Search at the bottom of the next screen:
- Search for UWE or University of the West of England and select if from the list:
- Select Allow to save the profile to your files:
- Select Install and confirm Yes:
- Enter your UWE Bristol username followed by '@uwe.ac.uk' (for example, an2-other@uwe.ac.uk)
- Enter your UWE Bristol password
- Select Install.
That's it! You are now connected to eduroam.
Known connection issues
- If you change your UWE Bristol password, you will need to re-install the profile from Step 1.
- If using an Android 11 device and having connection issues, install the geteduroam app from the Google Play store as an alternative.
