  1. Within Word click File and then Print.

Your print job will now be sent to the print queue. It will not be printed until you log in to a printer and release it.

All print jobs will be removed from the queue if they have not been printed after eight hours.

Printing from your own device

The web-based service has reduced functionality:

  • Files accepted are Microsoft Office, PDF, JPG, GIF, PNG, TIF and BMP.
  • All images will print full size on A4.
  • PDFs or Microsoft Office files cannot be resized.
  1. Log in to https://printme.uwe.ac.uk/ with your UWE Bristol username and password.
  2. Select Browse and find the file you want to print on your device.
  3. Select Open.
  4. Select Next.

  6. Choose the appropriate print queue:
    • BWprinting for black and white

Your print job will now be sent to the print queue. It will not be printed until you log in to a printer and release it.

  • If the printer is found to be at fault we will re-print your document at no extra charge.

Important note: we can only re-print jobs; we cannot re-credit Pharos accounts.

PowerPoint printing guide

PDF Adobe printing guide

You can print a PDF with the A0 printer in Frenchay Library.

The printer has A1 and A0 paper. You can select default A2 landscape or custom size printing, but you are restricted by this width.

Please note: the printer does not print edge-to-edge.

You can trim your printing in the Q Block project room in 2Q8 (open 24 hours).

PDF printing

Firstly, please leave plenty of time to print off your work.

  1. Open your PDF file with Adobe Acrobat.
If the file isn't a PDF, open the original application the file was made in and choose Save as and PDF file type.
  2. Select File from the menu bar and Print from the drop-down menu.
If the menu bar is hidden: Windows press F9; Mac press Shift, Command, and M keys at the same time.
To keep your print settings for additional printing select the print icon from the toolbar instead.
  3. Ensure that you are using the correct printer queue for the large format printer: \\pstu-pha03\LargeFormatLibFR
  4. Select the Properties button:
Print window with 'Printer' and 'Properties' button highlighted
  5. Select Page as in application to choose your page size:
Properties window with 'Page as in application' highlighted
  6. Select a size and choose landscape or portrait from the icons. Note that a landscape setting has the higher of the two measurements first.
To create a custom page size:
    • Select create a custom page size.
    • Input the width and length in millimetres (eg an A0 banner would be 2378x841) and add a custom name to identify your custom setting.
    • Select your custom setting from the bottom of the list.
      Page as in application window
  7. Check that the preview is set to Show always.
Please note: if this isn't selected, you won't be able to see a print preview.
  8. Select OK.
  9. Properties window with 'Show always' and 'OK' highlighted
  10. Select your Page Sizing & Handling (eg select Fit if you want full size):
    • Fit - If you want full size. This will maximise the size of the image to fit the page with distorting the image.
    • Actual size - Will print at 100% of the image size. Image may be cropped at edges if larger than page, or much smaller than the page, depending on the actual size of the image.
    • Custom scale - Allows user to select a % value for the size of the image where the user may want the image to be framed by the unprinted border, or be a particular size at output to fit a specific size.
  11. Select Print. This will take you to a print preview screen.
Print window with 'Page Sizing & Handling' highlighted
  12. What you can see in the print preview is what will print out. The size and position here are an accurate representation.
    • Warning: If you see a warning notice, saying that the selected media size is not loaded, you may have selected a paper size that the printer doesn't have. We have A1/A0 paper, so you are confined by that width, but length is flexible. Any custom size that is smaller than A0 will need trimming. Follow the instructions paying close attention to step 5, using the Page as in application to select a paper size.
    • If you didn't see a print preview, go back to step 7 and check that it is set to Show always.
  13. Press OK.
    Print preview window
  14. If your job did not print after release, please see the Library team.
  15. Trim your printing in the Q Block project room 2Q8 (open 24 hours).
Please note: the printer does not print edge-to-edge.

If you need further assistance, please speak to the Frenchay Library team.
