How to attend a graduation ceremony. This information offers an example of our usual process.

Awards Ceremonies postponed

All 2020 and 2021 Awards Ceremonies have been postponed due to coronavirus. The information on this page is currently only available to provide an idea of the usual process.

What you need to do

  1. Step 1


    Please refer to the eligibility guidelines to see which ceremony series you will be invited to.

    Invitation schedule

    • July ceremony invites will be sent in May
    • October ceremony invites will be sent in September
    • November ceremony invites will be sent in September

    We will send your invitation to your UWE Bristol email address and your personal email address. If you have completed your course you can access your UWE Live Mail through Office 365 for 12 months after your award is confirmed. Please make sure your personal email address is up to date in MyUWE.

    Partnerships students

    You will be invited to a UWE Bristol graduation ceremony if you study at one of the following partnership institutions:

    • Bristol, Clifton and West of England Zoological Society Ltd
    • Global College of Engineering and Technology
    • Helsinki Psychotherapy Institute
    • International University, Vietnam
    • School for Higher and Professional Education
    • Mulberry Bush School
    • Taylors*
    • The British College

    *Please note: This only applies to Dual Award students who study their final year at UWE Bristol, and Taylors MBA students. If you are a Dual Award student studying your final year at UWE Bristol, you will need to complete your internship modules in order to be eligible for the ceremony.

    If your institution is not listed above and you want to attend a UWE Bristol graduation ceremony, please contact the Graduation team at We will be able to invite you if there is enough space in the relevant ceremony. You will need to send your request at least one week before the registration deadline, as otherwise we will not be able to include you.

    If you do not receive the invite

    If you do not receive the invite when you are expecting to, please contact the Graduation Team at and include your student number. Please do this before the registration deadline, as otherwise we cannot guarantee that we can include you in your ceremony.

  2. Step 2

    Please make sure that you read and understand the graduation terms and conditions before you register.

  3. Step 3

    You cannot register for your Awards Ceremony if you have a tuition fee debt. You will need to clear your debt before the registration deadline, as otherwise we cannot guarantee that we will be able to include you in the graduation programme or the ceremony.

    Debts will need to be cleared at least one week before the deadline to register for your ceremony.

  4. Step 4

    Registration for the UWE Bristol July ceremonies will open in May and the UWE Bristol November ceremonies will open in September.

    Your Awards Ceremony invitation will contain instructions on how to register your attendance. Please note that you will only be able to register once you have received your Awards Ceremony invite.

    Attendance at an Awards Ceremony is free to all graduating students. Even if you do not intend to buy guest tickets, please complete your registration - you will not be charged if you do not add guest tickets.

    Your results will be released after the registration deadline, so we suggest that you register as soon as you receive your invite to secure your place.

    If you are unsure if you will complete your award in time

    We understand that you may be unsure if you will or will not be eligible to attend the award ceremony. This may make you hesitant to register for the ceremony, purchase guest tickets and hire robes.

    If you are in this situation when you receive the graduation invite we would advise you to register for your ceremony without purchasing guest tickets or hiring robes. This would be free of charge and will guarantee your place at the ceremony if you complete your award.

    You would then be able to return to the online store to purchase guest tickets and hire your robes via the Ede & Ravenscroft website closer to the time of your ceremony. Just make sure you do so before the registration deadline.

    In the event that you do purchase guest tickets and don't complete your award we will send a refund for your unused guest tickets.

  5. Step 5

    Hire your robe from Ede & Ravenscroft. Have a tape measure ready to measure the circumference of your head.

  7. Step 7

    Find out about access options available for graduands and guests, including accessible parking, toilets and induction loop.

    If you or your guests are coming from a country that is outside of the European Economic Area (EEA), we can produce a letter to confirm that we are expecting you and your named guests to attend the ceremony. Find out about visa support letters.

  8. Step 8

    We will contact you about additional guest ticket availability once the registration deadline has passed and if you have registered for your ceremony.

  9. Step 9

    Log in to MyUWE after the Award boards and results publication date to check if you have completed your award.

    Make sure you read through the information sent to you in your final diary date reminder, which you will receive closer to the time of your ceremony.

When not to register

If you cannot complete your award

If you do not complete your award in time for your ceremony your registration will be cancelled. You will be refunded for any guest tickets you have purchased.

Please do not register for your Awards Ceremony if you are certain that you will not complete your award in time.

If you cannot attend

If you will not be able to attend the ceremony, please do not register. Please contact the Graduation Team at and include your student number in the message.

The date and time of your Awards Ceremony is confirmed. Graduands are not able to choose a different ceremony on a different date or time.
