Accredited by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), this practical degree incorporates evidence-based learning, simulations, and half the time spent on clinical work placements. You’ll gain specialist knowledge in radiation science, technology, anatomy, physiology and pathology. You’ll apply this knowledge as you learn to operate highly specialised imaging equipment and the Shaderware virtual reality x-ray software.

This course will give you the in-depth academic and practical grounding you need as a trainee optometrist. With a balanced mix of theory and placements in each year of the course, you’ll cover all the key areas you need to work in this field, including anatomy, physiology, optics, lenses, dispensing, clinical practice, regulation, ocular pathology and patient contact.

This course has a strong practical focus with around half of your time spent gaining clinical practice experience. To prepare, you’ll learn scientific theory and develop your skills using equipment such as Virtual Linear Accelerator (VERT), and training with our Eclipse radiotherapy planning system. Supported by experienced academic and clinical staff, you’ll become confident in communicating with patients of all ages and backgrounds, as well as working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

This course is year zero of selected degree courses in the Allied Health Professions and Nursing and Midwifery departments at UWE Bristol. You’ll study areas of human biology, psychology, sociology and research to gain a solid grounding in science and healthcare-related topics.

You’ll also develop the knowledge, skills and confidence you need to take the next step in your education and career. Most of the teaching takes place at the City of Bristol College, with some sessions taught at our Glenside Campus.
