Research in the School of Social Sciences

The School of Social Sciences hosts a research centre and two research groups, with considerable collaboration between these groups, institutes and centre generating innovative inter- and trans-disciplinary research with real-world impact building on and influencing our teaching and practice. As well as working with regional partners, our research projects attract national and international funding. 

Researchers in the School also work closely with colleagues in other research centres and institutes in the College of Health, Science and Society and in other colleges.

The Centre for Appearance Research (CAR) is the world's largest research group focusing on the role of appearance and body image in people's lives.

The Psychological Sciences Research Group (PSRG) conducts applied research that has a positive influence on people and places; at home, in the workplace, and in the wider social environment.
