Everything you need to know to secure your place.

Follow the stages below to attend your graduation ceremony
-
Step 1
Eligibility
If you are unsure whether you are eligible to attend a graduation ceremony, or want to check whether you will be invited to a July or November ceremony, please find more information on eligibility to attend.Invitations
Invitations are sent to all provisionally eligible students once the ceremony schedule has been finalised. This typically happens as per the below, although may be subject to change.
- July ceremony invites will be sent by the end of April.
- November ceremony invites will be sent by the end of September.
We will send your invitation to your UWE Bristol email address and your personal email address, if this is available on your student record. If you have completed your course you can access your UWE Live Mail through Office 365 for 12 months after your award is confirmed. To ensure you receive your invitation and can therefore attend graduation, please make sure your personal email address is up to date in MyUWE.
If you haven’t received any emails regarding your graduation ceremony, please contact the graduation team as soon as possible. We will be able to invite you if there is enough space in the relevant ceremony. You will need to send your request at least one week before the deadline, as otherwise we will not be able to include you.
-
Step 2
Please make sure that you read and understand the graduation terms and conditions before you book your place.
-
Step 3
If you have an outstanding tuition fee debt with UWE Bristol that is not cleared before the deadline, you will not be able to graduate or feature in the ceremony programme.
View our information on ways to pay, or contact the Income Office to discuss a payment plan. You will not be able to graduate until your debt is cleared.
-
Step 4
Attendance is free to all graduating students. If you have been invited and wish to attend your graduation, you must book your place by the deadline to secure your place, even if you do not intend to book guest tickets or have not received your final results. If you are a student supported by UWE cares and need support around attending your graduation, please contact the UWE Cares team on UWECares@uwe.ac.uk.
Tickets are available on a first come, first served basis and could sell out before the booking deadline. If there are no places left you will be guaranteed an invite to the next available ceremony series, as long as you contact the graduation team in advanced to ask to be deferred.
To book your place, simply follow the link in your invitation email which will redirect you to the booking site. Please ensure you follow all of the step-by-step instructions (PDF) to ensure your place has been booked. If you miss a step, or do not check out your basket correctly before the deadline, your place will not be booked to attend graduation and any guest tickets you requested will not be reserved.
Guest tickets can be added when you book your place, or anytime up to the deadline. Details of available guest tickets will be communicated to you within your invitation email. We will contact you to advise about additional guest ticket availability once the deadline has passed, providing you have booked to attend.
If you do not book your place by the deadline, you will not be able to attend your ceremony or do the following:
- graduate at the upcoming ceremony series
- attend a graduation ceremony with your cohort
- sit with your cohort within the graduation ceremony
- sit on stage with other students within the graduation ceremony
- book or buy guest tickets – you may not be able to bring anyone with you on the day
- book robes
- book photography.
It is your responsibility to check that all details relating to yourself, or your award are correct throughout the booking process. If the incorrect award is stated this will be reflected in the ceremony programme and the award read out within the ceremony. It could also affect the robe you have booked for your ceremony. Please contact the graduation team as soon as possible if anything is incorrect. After the booking deadline it may not be possible for any amends to be reflected in the ceremony programme.
If you are unsure if you will complete your award in time
We understand that you may be unsure if you will or will not be eligible to attend the graduation ceremony. This may make you hesitant to book your place for the ceremony, purchase guest tickets and hire robes. If you are in this situation when you receive the graduation invite, we would advise you to book your place and your two free guest tickets for your ceremony, without purchasing photography or hiring robes. This would be free of charge and will guarantee your place at the ceremony if you complete your award.
You would then be able to return to the booking site to book any additional tickets (if available) and hire robes closer to the time of your ceremony – just make sure you do so before the deadline.
We recommend not booking travel or accommodation until you know you have completed your award. We recognise that this is not always possible in the case of international travel, but the University does not accept liability for any costs or expenses incurred by those due to attend the ceremony. Please review our guidance on cancellations and refunds for any items purchased.
-
Step 5
Wearing academic robes for graduation is not compulsory, however if you wish to wear robes for your ceremony, they must be hired or purchased through the University's official robe suppliers, Ede & Ravenscroft.
To hire your robe, follow the link from your invitation email to the from Ede & Ravenscroft website. You can do this when you book your place or anytime before the deadline. Have a tape measure ready to measure the circumference of your head.
Please note you still need to check out your ticket and your guest tickets to book your place, even if you do not buy robes or photography.
-
Step 6
Official photography is not a compulsory part of attending your graduation although is a nice keepsake of the day. View details of the photography packages provided by Ede & Ravenscroft for graduation.
Please note you still need to check out your ticket and your guest tickets to book your place, even if you do not buy robes or photography.
-
Step 7
If you or your guests are coming from a country that is outside of the European Economic Area (EEA), we can produce a letter to confirm that we are expecting you and your named guests to attend the ceremony.
Find out about visa support letters and the information required.
-
Step 8
If you or your guests have any access requirements which the graduation team may need to be aware of on the day, or if you have any questions about accessibility, please contact the graduation team.
Wheelchair access is available through the north door of the cathedral and appropriate seating will be arranged. Stewards will be pleased to show you to your seats when you arrive at the cathedral. Find out more about access options available for graduates and guests, including accessible parking, toilets and hearing loop.
-
Step 9
Log in to MyUWE after the Award boards and results publication date to check if you have completed your award and therefore can attend your graduation.
Make sure you read through the information sent to your UWE Bristol Graduation ticket email, which you will receive closer to the time of your ceremony.
When not to book
If you cannot complete your award in time
Please do not book your place for your graduation if you are certain that you will not complete your award in time, for example, if you are already aware you will be taking a resit which will be confirmed at a later award board.
If you are unsure if you will complete your award in time, please book your place by the deadline following the steps above.
If you do not wish to, or cannot attend
The date and time of your graduation is confirmed, so graduates are not able to choose a different ceremony date or time.
If you will not be able to attend the ceremony, please do not book your place. Please contact the graduation team ensuring you provide your student number and advise if you would be interested in attending a later ceremony series.
