We held photo days the week commencing 14 June 2021 for students whose Awards Ceremonies have been postponed. The photo days were very popular, with lots of students and their families joining us to get that important memento of degree completion, a professional photograph wearing academic robes.
There is obviously a high level of interest in more, so we are planning some for September. We are also still planning to hold in-person ceremonies in spring 2022 which will include the opportunity to buy a professional photograph. We think photo days are a great opportunity for:
- international students who may be leaving the UK soon
- if you no longer wish to attend a ceremony but still want a photo
- anyone who just can’t wait to put up their photo on the mantlepiece.
Registration has now closed for September photo days.
If you are unable to attend a photo day, please be assured there will still be the opportunity to get professional photos at the in-person Awards Ceremonies planned for spring 2022.
If you are an international student who will not be able to return for the in-person ceremonies and would still like to attend a September photo day please contact email@example.com.
Please note that by registering for a photo day you accept the photo day terms and conditions.
The cost of academic dress will be as below. The cost of different photography packages will be available to view on the registration site, with the basic package starting at £30.
- Bachelor: £15
- Master: £20
- Doctorate: £25
Please note: We are still planning to hold in-person ceremonies in spring 2022 which will include the opportunity to buy a professional photograph. Robe hire costs for photo days will be at our special photo day rate, but costs for hire for a ceremony will be charged at a normal rate. If you want to attend and wear a gown at both you will have to hire a gown twice.
In order to stay within the venue capacities you can bring a maximum of five guests with you to the photo day. Currently these can be from outside your household, but if government COVID-19 regulations change this could change. We will up-date all registered students as soon as possible in the event of any changes.
We will confirm the COVID-secure measures that will be in place at least a week before the event. It is likely that masks will need to be worn (except while your photo is being taken) and there may be requirement for everyone attending the event to take a lateral flow test. Please be aware that any changes in COVID-19 rules and guidance may result in changes to or cancellation of the event.
In order to offer photo days to as many people as possible who have had their ceremony postponed we will be inviting all students who are provisionally eligible to complete their degree by the end of November 2021. This means that there is a chance some people will have a photo taken before they receive their results and complete their degree – something that would not normally be allowed but we have made an exception for in these unprecedented circumstances.
We ask you not to register for a photo day if you know of a reason that you will not complete your degree before the end of November 2021, and we stress that any photographs taken will not be proof of degree completion.
On the day
Please arrive at your booked time slot and no earlier – this will ensure we can keep the event COVID-19 secure and reduce the number of people in the venue at any one time. You will be able to pick up your robe and get dressed while your guests wait in an allocated space. You will then all be called into the photography area when the photographer is ready for you.
Photo slot duration
The photo itself will likely only take five to ten minutes, depending on your number of guests, but we would suggest you allow about an hour to access the event, dress in your robes and have your photos, in case of any delays.
After your photo
If you would like to take some of your own photos on campus after your professional photo you will be able to do this and then return the gown before you leave. Alternatively, when you register for the photo day there will be an option to pay extra and take the gown home with you from the photo day for five days. The extra payment will include a return bag with paid postage. There will be mirrors available for students in the robing area.
If you can’t attend due to a COVID-19 diagnosis or travel ban
If you are unable to attend due to COVID-19 you will be able to get a refund on your photography and robe hire, change the hire to a home delivery, or postpone the hire to a later date. Please see our terms and conditions for full details.
