Class of 2021 Awards Ceremonies
Class of 2021 – ceremonies update
Having reviewed the government’s roadmap announced on 22 February 2021 and what this means for planning and holding large scale events, and carefully considering all the guidance, we have come to the difficult decision that the July 2021 Awards Ceremonies will not go ahead as planned and will be postponed until a later date.
While the government’s roadmap is hopeful for a return to something closer to normality by June, the dates stated in this roadmap are the earliest potential dates for this to happen and these can change without much notice. With the level of planning required, not only for the University, but also for many students who will need to organise travel and accommodation, the risk of a late stage cancellation is too high if we plan for Awards Ceremonies in July. We want to make sure that you have the best graduation day possible and believe that postponement is the best way to achieve this.
We know this news will be disappointing and that the last year has been a difficult period for you all. Please be assured that we understand how important graduation is to you and your family. We want nothing more than to celebrate with you at an in-person ceremony, but these events involve thousands of people travelling to Bristol from all over the UK and the world, and require nine months of planning, meaning we need to take this decision now rather than waiting to see how the situation progresses.
Once we are able to provide more information about when your Awards Ceremony will take place we will be in touch.
Gloucester Cathedral 2021 Awards Ceremony
The next Gloucester Cathedral Awards Ceremony is currently planned to take place in November 2021 and will be for both 19/20 and 20/21 cohorts.
Due to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the pandemic we are unable to confirm the specific date of the ceremony and we will contact all eligible students with more information as and when this is confirmed.
Bristol November 2021 Awards Ceremonies
Due to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding large scale events and social distancing we have not yet made any decisions about the November 2021 Awards Ceremonies, but as soon as more information is available we will be in touch with all eligible students by email.
Keep your details up to date
If you were provisionally eligible to attend the July 2021 ceremony, you should have received an email with information about the postponement on 16 March 2021. If you did not receive this email, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible.
All direct contact about your Awards Ceremony will be sent to your personal email address, so please make sure that your myUWE is updated with your most current personal email address.
Attending an Awards Ceremony is not compulsory
It is important to stress that postponing graduation ceremonies does not impact on the University awarding you your degree, providing you meet the requirements of your course. It is not mandatory for you to attend graduation to complete your degree.
Travel and accommodation
Unfortunately, as per the Award Ceremonies terms and conditions, in the event of cancellation due to a pandemic, the University does not accept liability for any costs/expenses incurred by those due to attend the ceremony. We suggest that you do not book any travel or accommodation for any provisional ceremony dates until these are confirmed by the Awards Ceremonies Team.
Receiving your degree certificate
We don’t hand out certificates at our ceremonies. They will be sent to the home address on your student record. My make sure that your address is up to date in myUWE.
