Protecting your visa - enrolment and attendance

You must enrol at the start of your studies within the set enrolment period. You must also register online on MYUWE at the start of each academic year.

You have a responsibility to:

• pay your fees at or before enrolment or set up a direct debit to pay the remainder
• complete the online enrolment in MYUWE
• complete your right to study check and have your passport scanned.

If you do not keep up to date with your fee payments, you may be withdrawn and lose your visa sponsorship.

You are expected to:

• attend taught parts of your course, including lectures, seminars and lab-based teaching
• submit coursework on time and attend exams and resits, if needed
• engage with your supervisors if you are a research student

Your attendance and engagement is monitored and assessed. If your attendance is not considered appropriate, you may be withdrawn and lose your visa sponsorship.

If you get a new passport, it must be scanned by the Points-Based System (PBS) Team. You must make an appointment to do this.

If you change or extend your visa, you must provide a new sharecode to the PBS Team via email to pbshelpline@uwe.ac.uk.

You are required to keep the following details up to date at all times in MYUWE:

• Home address (address in your country or region)
• Term address (address in Bristol)
• Personal email address
• Mobile phone number (one that works in the United Kingdom).

You need to inform the Placement team before beginning any work placement.

• If you are planning an absence of more than two weeks during term time, please complete the Student Visa Absence Form 2026/27 for visa compliance.
• If your absence is less than two weeks, you do not need to complete this form but you should inform your programme leader via email.
• If you absence is for more than 60 days, sponsorship of your visa will end, you will lose your visa and need to leave the UK.

Please ensure you discuss your absence with your programme leader so they can advise you about how an absence may impact your academic situation.

You do not need permission to be absent during your official vacation periods. 

If you need to extend your visa, seek advice at least three to four months before it expires. The Immigration Advice Service can advise you on how to make a successful visa application.

If your visa expires before you apply to extend your visa, or following a visa refusal, you become an overstayer and will be withdrawn from your studies at UWE Bristol.

If you finish your course early, UWE Bristol will inform UKVI, who will shorten your visa in line with your new course end date.

You can email the PBS team to check whether they have informed UKVI of your early completion at pbshelpline@uwe.ac.uk.

If you wish to withdraw part way through your course, you need to follow our procedure for withdrawing from your course.

After withdrawing, UWE Bristol will inform UKVI that you have stopped studying with us. UKVI will cancel your visa and you should leave the UK within 60 days of your withdrawal date.

If you wish to transfer you will only be able to do so if you meet both UWE Bristol and UKVI requirements. There is no automatic right to transfer course. Please note that transferring courses may have implications for your visa. It's best to check with an Immigration Adviser before applying to change course.
