Richard Gleave - 15 November 2017

Richard Gleave, Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Operating Officer of Public Health England, delivered a Bristol Distinguished Address Series lecture entitled "Evidence informed leadership - how does evidence influence the leadership of health organisations?".

Evidence informed leadership – how does evidence influence the leadership of health organisations?

Richard Gleave at UWE BristolRichard gave an insightful talk about Public Health England (PHE), explaining that “evidence was at the heart of PHE - it's the DNA of the company” and how they use this evidence to advise government on health policies.

PHE is not part of the NHS who treat people, PHE provide expert advice and support, and focus on health and wellbeing to help people live well for as long as possible.

There were three main focuses to Richard's address, the first was explaining how PHE are a government science agency; Richard then discussed how evidence is insufficient on its own and the distinction between knowledge and evidence; he wrapped up the lecture discussing policy and realpolitiks.
