Library Resources for Fashion Communication

Use Library Search to find:

• Books, magazines, DVDs and all other physical material held at the three UWE Bristol libraries
• A vast amount of online content such as e-books and journal articles.

Journals and magazines (print and online)

These provide information on specialist topics and can contain more up to date information than books. Relevant titles for Fashion Communication include AnOther Man, Arena Homme Plus, Dazed & Confused, Fashion Theory, Fashion Practice, The Gentlewoman, and Vogue.

Many journals and magazines are available online, but some are also (or only) in print in the Library. Library Search or library staff can assist with helping you locate the journals in each library or online.

Databases provide reliable information from collections of journal articles, images, audio and film and more.

Databases for Fashion Communication

Art, Design & Architecture Collection covers the visual arts, including fashion, photography and visual communication. The databases in the collection contain either full-text journal articles or article citations and abstracts.

Bloomsbury Berg Fashion Library gives access to reference works including Berg Encyclopedia of World Dress and Fashion and more than 17,000 colour images.

Bloomsbury Fashion Cities contains a selection of book chapters, expert articles, catwalk images, and videos, from the Bloomsbury Fashion Central Collection.

Business Source Ultimate covers UK and international business and management topics and contains full-text journal articles and market, company and industry reports.

Fashion and Race Database contains research and resources aimed at addressing racism and promoting diversity in the fashion system.

Mintel produces full-text access to market survey information, including market reports, product news and launch information, plus demographic and economic statistics.

Stylus Trends Analysis offers research and analysis of emerging consumer trends with actionable insights via reports, podcasts and briefings.

The Vogue Archive [American] is a complete searchable archive of American Vogue.

World Advertising Research Center (WARC) contains information on the worldwide advertising and marketing industries, including case studies, full-text journal articles, news and statistics.

WGSN (Worth Global Style Network) offers research, trend analysis and news to the fashion, design and style industries.

Workbooks, guides and tutorials

LinkedIn Learning – online courses and video tutorials for creative, technology and business skills.

Special collections

• Artists' books, Visionaire editions, photobooks and zines are in the Special Collections area of Bower Ashton Library. All items are listed on Library Search or you can browse the collection during the library staffed hours.
• Film, TV and radio resources – access to a variety of resources including Box of Broadcasts, Kanopy and other audio and moving image collections.
• News and news archives – print and online current and archival news sources.
• Image resources – a curated list of image databases and links, including advice on copyright issues.
