Entry requirements
If you do not quite meet the entry requirements for our undergraduate courses, UWE Bristol offers foundation degrees or undergraduate degrees with foundation year entry.
English language requirements
To study at UWE Bristol you must demonstrate that your English level is high enough for university study. We accept a number of different Secure English Language Tests (SELT) for entry onto our degree courses, with IELTS being the most common. English language requirements vary slightly from subject to subject.
We accept English from the Abitur, studied at the following levels:
- leistungkurs (intensified course)
- hauptfach (major course)
- mit erhöhtem Anforderungsniveau (course with higher level of difficulty).
We accept a Grade 10 for where IELTS with an overall score of 6.0/6.5 is required and a Grade 12 to meet IELTS with an overall score of 7 or 7.5.
Please note we are looking for written examination results, not just oral examinations.

What to do if you don't meet our entry requirements
If you do not quite meet our entry requirements, our International College offers a range of university preparation courses to teach you all you need to progress to UWE Bristol. We also have a pre-sessional English language course to get your English skills up to the standard required for entry to UWE Bristol.
Entry requirements
Holders of the Zeugnis der Allgemeinen Hochschulreife (Abitur) Upper secondary education with a grade of 2 out of 6 or a ‘gut’ can be considered for a bachelor's degree.
Holders of the Zeugnis der Fachgebundenen Hochschulreife Zeugnis der Fachhochschulreife with an overall grade of 12 or ‘gut’ can be considered for a bachelor's degree.

Holders of the Magister Artium/Diplom/Erstes Staatsexamen or Fachhochschuldiplom with a grade of ‘gut’ can be considered for postgraduate study.
Holders of the master's degree or Lizentiat/Aufbaustudium/Zweites Staatsexamen can be considered for PhD study.
Please note: where UWE Bristol has an academic agreement in place with an institution, greater flexibility in entry requirements for undergraduate and postgraduate courses may apply as outlined in those agreements.
