Entry requirements
If you do not meet the requirements for our undergraduate degree courses, you may be considered for a foundation degree course.
SPM holders with grades A+ to C will be considered for entry onto a UWE Bristol Art and Design foundation course. You can find more information on the creative industries foundation courses available.
For other courses, students have the option to undertake an international foundation or international year one course at our International College. Upon successful completion, these courses offer guaranteed entry onto a UWE Bristol undergraduate degree course.
English language requirements
To study at UWE Bristol you must demonstrate that your English level is high enough for university study. We accept a number of different Secure English Language Tests (SELT) for entry onto our degree courses, with IELTS being the most common. English language requirements vary slightly from subject to subject.
We also accept the following local qualification (please note this may vary for some courses):
- Malaysian SPM: English Language Syllabus 1119 - Grades 1–6.

What to do if you don't meet our entry requirements
If you do not quite meet our entry requirements, our International College offers a range of university preparation courses to teach you all you need to progress to UWE Bristol. We also have a pre-sessional English language course to get your English skills up to the standard required for entry to UWE Bristol.
Entry requirements
Holders of the following qualifications will be considered for entry onto UWE Bristol undergraduate courses:
- Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) with 5Bs is required for Year 1 entry
- Canadian Pre-University (CPU) - 60% in six advanced-level Grade 12 U, U/C or M subjects (including grade 12 U English)
- South Australian Matriculation (SAM) pass with 70-80%
- Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysian (STPM) - with principal passes (grades A-C) in three subjects.
Applicants holding diplomas and advanced diplomas may be eligible for advanced entry onto our undergraduate courses. Diploma with CGPA 2.5 will be considered for Year 2 entry.
Please note: for final year entry the English requirements are an IELTS 6.5 overall with no components below 5.5 or IELTS 6.0 overall with no more than one component below 5.5.
The requirements listed above are the minimum requirements for entrance to UWE Bristol; competitive courses may have higher requirements.

Applicants with the following qualifications would be considered for entry to UWE Bristol's master's courses:
- bachelor's degree (GPA of 2.7 or above). Applications may be considered with GPAs of less than 2.7 where relevant experience can be demonstrated.
Holders of a master's degree will be considered for doctoral (PhD) study.
Please note: where UWE Bristol has an academic agreement in place with an institution, greater flexibility in entry requirements for undergraduate and postgraduate courses may apply as outlined in those agreements.
