About

Bristol Zoological Society is a conservation charity. Founded in 1835, the Society runs and operates the Bristol Zoo Project and numerous conservation programmes that span four continents across the world.

The Society’s mission is to ‘save wildlife together’ through implementing conservation initiatives, carrying out research, working to protect species and habitats overseas, encouraging sustainable behaviours and perceptions and training the next generation of conservationists. Our conservation efforts are worldwide, from helping re-introduce white clawed crayfish into UK rivers to working with communities in the Philippines to save the critically endangered Negros bleeding-heart dove.

All the degrees, created in partnership with UWE Bristol, focus on conservation science and give you a unique access to the zoos’ staff expertise and its animals.

Bristol Zoological Society is set to expand as we continue to transition to our new Bristol Zoo Project location over the next few years with exciting plans to establish a Conservation Learning Centre, which will be a purpose-built hub for our higher education provision.

Location

Bristol Zoological Society is located at Bristol Zoo Project, based in South Gloucestershire, United Kingdom, and in the Conservation Education Centre at Bristol Zoo Gardens, in Clifton, Bristol.

Higher education teaching is currently carried out at both sites.

Supervision

BSc and MSc thesis supervision

We supervise student projects in the zoo and abroad each year.

Masters in Research

The zoo can also supervise MRes students on projects associated with the zoo’s national and international conservation programmes or zoo-based projects.
