Cloud desktop

It's being rolled out during the 2026/27 academic year, starting in Architecture.

Cloud desktop lets you use University software and apps through the internet, instead of installing it on your own device or using VPN.

When you connect, you'll see a familiar Windows desktop that works much like a University computer. You can use it from a University-owned or personal device.

Simply install the app, sign in with your UWE Bristol account and start using your applications. The University manages software updates and security in the background.

1. Download and install the free Windows App:
   
2. Open the app and select + to subscribe.
3. Select Work or School account.
4. Sign in using your UWE Bristol email address and password.
5. You may be asked to verify your sign-in using multi-factor authentication (MFA).

1. Double-click the desktop you want to use.
2. Enter your UWE Bristol email address and password if prompted.
3. Wait for the desktop to load.

You can then start using your applications.

Cloud desktop is connected to OneDrive.

Save your files in OneDrive so you can access them both inside and outside cloud desktop.

How to access OneDrive

To disconnect correctly:

1. Open the Start menu in cloud desktop.
2. Select Power.
3. Select Disconnect.

Do not close the cloud desktop window using the X button. This can cause problems the next time you connect.
