Ruth is the Editor and Project Manager for Science for Environment Policy, Science for Environment Policy, a news and information service that publishes the latest environmental research findings, produced by the Science Communication Unit, UWE Bristol on behalf of the European Commission’s Environment Directorate-General.
Research, practice and projects
Science for Environment Policy communicates environmental research findings in easy-to-understand formats to policymakers across Europe, strengthening the connection between scientific evidence and policy.
Ruth has a background in socioeconomic and literary theory, six years’ experience in various editing and editorial roles, and a range of experience communicating science for change.
Ruth has previously worked at the Overseas Development Institute, communicating global research to encourage governments and policymakers to act in pro-poor and accountable ways; as a freelance writer and editor on several books, magazines, reports and websites, mainly within the spheres of sociology, economics, anthropology, research communications and development policy; and has also managed an academic journal publishing innovative policy ideas, Development Policy Review.
She also co-founded and co-manages a festival project, Autumn Shift, which is rooted in transitions towards permaculture and helps to bring multi-skilled performers and workshop gurus face-to-face with the UK festival community each year. She runs a twitter account, ecoanthropolity, communicating fights, rights and futures for indigenous, nomadic and displaced peoples.
