About the scholarship

This scholarship is in memory of our dear friend and colleague, Emma Halliwell, whose inspirational work advanced the field of body image and passion for encouraging students inspired many to pursue a career in psychology. It will fund an outstanding early career researcher to support their attendance and presentation at Appearance Matters 10.

What the scholarship covers

The scholarship will cover complementary conference registration, conference dinner and attendance at a training workshop.

It will also include funds towards accommodation and travel costs (£600 for UK based applicants, £800 for EU based applicants and £1,200 for non-EU based applicants).

Who can apply

We are looking for an outstanding early career researcher who does not have access to funds to enable them to attend and present at the conference.

Applicants are required to demonstrate:

  • the high quality and innovative nature of their current research that they plan to present at the conference.
  • how they plan to apply the new knowledge and skills they will obtain from attending the conference in their research in future.

The successful applicant must attend the full conference and have submitted an abstract to present at the conference.

After the conference, they must also provide a 1,000-word report of the impact of attending the conference on their research within six months of attending the conference.

The application process

Applicants are requested to complete an online application form.

Deadline for scholarship applications and abstract submission is Sunday 1 October 2023, 23:59 London time (GMT).

We will inform you of the outcome of your scholarship application in February 2024.
