Appearance Matters 11 Conference
A biennial conference from the Centre for Appearance Research.
The 11th Appearance Matters conference (AM11) will take place between Tuesday 9 June and Thursday 11 June 2026 in Bristol, UK, the home of the Centre for Appearance Research at UWE Bristol.
We are delighted to announce our AM11 keynote speakers, Dr Zali Yager (Executive Director of the Embrace Collective and adjunct Associate Professor at the Institute for Health and Sport at Victoria University) and Phyllida Swift (appearance activist and CEO of Face Equality International). The programme will also include a range of symposia, oral presentations, short talks, poster presentations and roundtable discussions, in addition to an early career workshop and an Ignite session.
After a hugely successful Appearance Matters 10 in 2024, the conference will be held again at the iconic City Hall, perfectly located in the heart of the city centre and bordering College Green park and the 12th-century Bristol Cathedral. Harbourside. This is a popular area filled with restaurants, bars, shops and hotels, as well as a host of sports and activities, such as paddle boarding, cycling and rowing. Stroll around the water’s edge and you will find Millennium Square – a bustling central hub with beautiful fountains and world-class attractions, such as Bristol Aquarium and The Watershed. The conference dinner will be held at one of the UK’s leading science centres, We The Curious.
A range of accommodation and transport options are available near the conference venue, but it is recommended to plan your visit and book early to secure the best rates.
More details will follow shortly, so keep an eye out on this website to stay informed about the latest AM11 updates.
We look forward to seeing you in June 2026 and learning about the important research you’ve been conducting on body image and appearance.
With best wishes
