The Octagon is a sanctuary space for staff and students where you can relax, read and meet friends. There are rooms available for solo or group prayer, worship, meditation and quiet reflection. There are also a number of books available to enable you to learn and explore your own faith and spirituality, as well as a wellbeing library.
It’s home to the chaplaincy team and hosts a variety of faith and wellbeing events and activities.
The Octagon is open 08:30-17:00 Monday to Friday and we welcome drop ins.
Staff and students have full access to a kitchen, complete with a microwave, crockery and a dishwasher.
We have four rooms that can be booked Monday-Sunday, 24 hours per day, for meetings, gatherings and events related to chaplaincy or general wellbeing.
- The Sanctuary and Quiet Room - A space dedicated to prayer, reflexion, spirituality and related activities. This medium sized space has limited furniture to maximise floor space, adjustable lighting and a selection of yoga mats, meditation cushions and multi-faith prayer books. Bookings are limited in this room, so that it remains available for staff and students to drop-in at any time. Please note that food and drink is not permitted in this room.
- The Reflection Room – A small, private space which can be used for spiritual guidance, reflection, pastoral care and prayer.
- The Main Lounge - A large room located in the centre of The Octagon and can be used for gatherings, network/society meetings and parties. It boasts a piano that visitors are welcome to use.
- The Small Lounge – A medium sized, staff only space with dimmable lighting that can be used for staff network meetings, parties and as a quiet place to eat lunch.
