NHS Blood and Transplant
UWE Bristol is the only university in England offering a specialist Master's in Applied Transfusion and Transplantation Science, working in partnership with NHS Blood and Transplant.
NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) is an essential part of the NHS.
As a Special Health Authority, it provides safe and effective blood donation services in England and transplantation services across the UK. This includes managing the donation, storage and transplantation of blood, organs, tissues, bone marrow and stem cells, and researching new treatments and processes. Our mission is to save and enhance the lives of others and give a lifeline to thousands of people every year.
In addition, NHSBT undertakes many diagnostic and therapeutic services for the NHS.
NHS Blood and Transplant is a national organisation and the teaching site is at our headquarters in Filton, Bristol, UK.
This is a large site with access to lecturing facilities and state-of-the-art laboratories – including a purpose-built training laboratory.
