What is an undergraduate degree?

An undergraduate degree allows you to study a subject in depth and work towards a bachelor’s qualification. You’ll gain specialist knowledge, develop critical thinking and become an independent learner, opening up a wide range of career pathways or the option to continue your studies further.

What is a degree with a foundation year?

A degree with a foundation year (year zero) gives you a supportive transition into university-level study. Studying alongside students from other courses, you’ll build core academic and professional skills – from problem-solving and academic literacy to communication and project work. You’ll also develop practical competencies linked to your subject area. This will help you grow in confidence and prepare for progression into the first year of your undergraduate degree.

We offer a range of degrees with an integrated foundation year for UK and EU students who would benefit from an additional year of preparation before starting year one.

If you’re an international student and don’t meet the entry requirements for direct entry (starting year one), you can take a preparatory course at our International College.

What is a foundation degree (FdA/FdSc)?

Foundation degrees are work-related qualifications typically studied over two years. They blend academic learning with practical skills and offer a vocational route into higher education. When you complete a foundation degree you can top up to a related honours degree to gain a full bachelor’s qualification.

What is a postgraduate degree?

A postgraduate degree lets you deepen your expertise beyond bachelor’s level. Through taught or research-based study, you’ll advance your subject knowledge, strengthen your professional capability and support your next steps in your career or academic journey.

What is a professional or short course?

Professional and short courses give you flexible, focused learning to help you upskill, reskill or broaden your expertise. You’ll work towards continuing professional development (CPD) awards or industry-recognised certifications, making them a practical way to boost your professional development without committing to a full degree.
