Careers appointments triage and referral process
-
Step 1
There are many online resources available to help you start thinking about your future career and build your skills and confidence. From CV feedback, psychometric tests, vacancy listings, work experience opportunities to interview simulations, you'll find everything you need to prepare for your next step.
- InfoHub (login required) - resources which include workshops, events, vacancies, placements, volunteering, internships and graduate roles to help you build skills and confidence.
- Career Toolkit - an online hub with tools and guides to help you explore careers, apply for roles and succeed in your career.
- CareerSet - instant personalised feedback on your CV, cover letter reviews, LinkedIn optimisation and interview practice.
- Graduates First - prepare for employer assessments with practice tests and exercises that build confidence and performance.
-
Step 2
Careers and Enterprise drop-ins run across all our campuses during term-time. These are held daily in the Careers Lounge (Frenchay) and scheduled on specific days for each college.
Careers Lounge drop-ins are open to all students at all stages of degree level. Perfect for quick queries, our Student Career Coaches are on hand to help you navigate our digital careers resources, search for work and further study, guide you through recruitment processes and empower your professional development. They can also arrange for more specialist support from our Careers and Enterprise Development Team.
College-specific drop-ins provide specialist guidance tailored to the courses within each college and are available exclusively to students from that college. These sessions are run by our Careers and Enterprise Developers.
Come along to a college drop-in for support with:
- career choice, planning and exploring options
- initial enterprise, self-employment, freelance thinking
- researching and applying for further or postgraduate study
- starting your job search and research
- starting your job applications
- using career equality and diversity resources.
All drop-in sessions are a great starting point to help identify the most useful resources or other appropriate support from our service to meet your needs.

Step 3
Please note: Most careers enquiries can be supported at our drop-ins or via our digital resources. We recommend that you check out our Career Toolkit digital resources before seeking an appointment. If your enquiry relates to CVs, please use the CareerSet CV assessment tool.
These 30-minute appointments can provide help with:
- more complex careers issues
- career choice
- exploring options
- postgraduate applications
- in-depth and specialist application form/CV help and preparation for interviews
- mock interviews
- course change – exploring potential impact on future career plans
- global/international opportunities
- enterprise and self-employment options with one of our specialist Enterprise Advisors.
Request an appointment via Careers Questions on InfoHub giving specific details about why you require an appointment. You can also request an appointment by attending a Career Lounge or college drop-in. Careers Coaching appointments are available at Frenchay Campus all year round and other campuses during term time.
A member of the Careers and Enterprise Development Team will handle your referral. Occasionally it may be necessary for us to ask for further information or signpost you to specific resources before you are given an appointment.
If you're an undergraduate student, these 30-minute careers appointments will only be available to book once you have been triaged. You will then be able to self-book up to four appointments per term.
For postgraduate students, one-to-one appointments are available to book from the start of your course, with no limit to the number of requests you can make.
Please let us know in advance if you have any accessibility requirements and bring relevant documents with something to take notes on to the appointment.
