Project summary
This fellowship centres on generating and synthesising evidence on the use of advanced technologies to support urban climate action and to better understand the barriers to their adoption. It includes an empirical study evaluating flood early warning systems in Aceh, Indonesia, and investigating how technology can contribute to climate resilience in resource-constrained cities.
A second strand of the fellowship explores the implications of the rapid growth of urban data centres for natural resources, infrastructure, and local communities. This work has contributed to C40’s Global Urban Data Centre Pact, advocating for more sustainable data centre development and governance.
The fellowship also contributes case study analyses that examine the links between climate and health impacts, while advancing responsible AI principles for organisational use and decision-making. Across these themes, the fellowship seeks to understand how cities can harness technological innovation in ways that are equitable, sustainable, and aligned with public interests.
