Project summary

Towards a paradigm shift in real estate valuation, Research project 1c (DC 11) works on the subject of ‘Towards a paradigm shift in real estate valuation’ . As with quantum theory itself (Kuhn, 1978 17) we argue that the paradigm shift in real estate valuation will become an essential response to the challenges presented by digitalisation and climate change in order to better fit the reality. Yet, QuiVal is not pursuing a grand scientific theory but part of the very real and messy world of professional practice of real estate investors, valuers, and subject matter experts.

This project considers how change happens, how it can be enabled, and how it is influenced by the socio-technical interactions with external structures such as governance and policy, and internal structures like frameworks, tools and procedures that will be developed within this wider QuiVal project.

In this context, the project is expected to challenge the current professional standards, guidelines and practices around valuation, while examining how practitioners may embrace new approaches to facilitate a paradigm shift. The project will seek to produce a set of recommendations for the implementation of the new tools, approaches, and knowledge.
