Description

Join us for an introduction to the topic of Black History Month where the aim will be to problematize its notion, provoking thought and healthy debate.

Black Ark Media presents a screening of the short film "Nosferasta, First Bite" by Oba, Adam Khalil, and Bayley Sweitzer. This innovative short spans five hundred years of brute colonialism, metaphorical blood-sucking on the people's misery, and human trafficking. Described by its makers as "a collaborative anticolonial vampire film" it is a reimagining of the visual artist, writer, and actor Oba's life and experience as a Rastaman in a postcolonial world. The event will open with an introduction by Black Ark Media, a brief presentation about the notion of Black History Month, and a Q&A about some of the issues arising from the film. The event will end with a brief spoken word performance by the surrealist poet, Ronnie McGrath.
