Description
Join our grounds manager Richie Fluester on a tour of Frenchay Campus' new restorative garden based in the old walled kitchen garden by the Farmhouse.
It's a space where staff and students can get away from the hustle and bustle of campus life.
Designed with Attention Restoration Theory (ART) in mind, the aim is to create a restorative environment to help relieve mental fatigue by providing an interesting natural setting, soft on the eyes and ears and a place for effortless reflection.
Clever use of planting, scents, running water, leading pathways and secluded seating areas will allow people to wander or sit still and let the garden move around them – sort of tricking the mind into thinking it's busy while it's actually engaged in a kinder type of attention called "soft fascination".
Dedicated horticulture/gardening spaces will be available for anyone who wants to get away and focus on something non-digital.
