About Festival of Sound

The Festival of Sound is a huge, family friendly festival with live performances for music lovers of all ages and tastes from rock, pop and electronic to classical, gospel and jazz.

This year’s festival includes three unique and special events that span the wide and diverse work of the Centre for Music.

Festival of Sound at Colston Hall

2022 events

Transforming Futures – Wednesday 16 March 2022

  • 20:00–21:30 at St George’s Bristol
  • Cost: £6, £3 for students/18 and under

Join the UWE Bristol Orchestra, Singers and Gospel Choir as they help celebrate the launch of UWE Bristol’s Transforming Futures strategy. The concert will be dedicated to music that has inspired us all culminating in the premier of a new work entitled ‘Transforming Futures’ dedicated to the memory and continued inspiration of Bristol’s very own Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

Jazz Night at The Beacon with guest soloist Louis Dowdeswell – Friday 18 March 2022

  • 20:00–22:30 at Bristol Beacon
  • Cost: £10/£5 for students and under 18s

Join the UWE Bristol Big Band and the Kris Nock Big Band on stage alongside guest soloist and trumpet star Louis Dowdeswell.

Both Big Bands will be representing the Southwest at this year’s National Concert Band Festival, so this will be your final chance to hear them in action before their performance at the Royal Northern College of Music.

Louis Dowdeswell has become one of the leading stars of the UK jazz scene. We are delighted he will be joining us back in his home city of Bristol.

Festival of Sound at the Beacon Closing Event – Saturday 19 March 2022  

  • 11:00–17:30 at Bristol Beacon
  • Cost: Free to attend

Join us for free performances and workshops throughout the day, including pop, blues, gospel, DJs, bands and songwriters. Performance begin at 11:00–17:00.
