About the event

Professor James Green's new book, Collective of Self-Defence in International Law, examines collective self-defence in international law. Article 51 of the 1945 Charter of the United Nations (UN) sanctifies the modern legal concept of self-defence, setting out ‘the inherent right of individual or collective self-defence if an armed attack occurs ...'. The Charter thus designates individual and collective self-defence, together, as a single legal ‘right’, which is ‘inherent’ In so doing, it firmly established the place of collective self-defence within contemporary international law.

There will be a discussion around the topics covered in Professor Green's book with external discussant, Dr Chris O’Meara, from the University of Exeter. This event will be chaired by Professor Gerhard Kemp.
