Description

Join us in conversation with Cristian Heredia Ligorria, UWE PhD candidate in Environmental Law.

We will explore:

  • how historic and ongoing forms of colonialism have helped to increase the vulnerability of specific people and places to the effects of climate change
  • how the effects of climate change are unequal and impact on different groups of people – very often those least responsible for causing the climate crisis
  • how addressing the effects of climate change cannot be achieved without also addressing the legacies of colonialism and striving for climate justice.

We will finish by chatting about positive ways forward for us as individuals here in Bristol. We will look at how different forms of advocacy, including arts, storytelling, community initiatives, participation in legal advocacy campaigns, and personal motivations, can contribute to addressing climate change from a decolonial perspective in an impactful way in our city.

We welcome all students and staff to this informal and social event. Sweet and savoury refreshments will be provided.
