Description

The aim is to design development in a way that provides benefits to people and nature and reduces its impacts on the wider environment. This event brings practitioners’ views on the requirements to meet net gain obligations in England and the challenges.

Speakers

Daniel Whittle is an Associate in the Planning and Compulsory Purchase team at Burges Salmon, where he trained before qualifying in 2017. He works with a range of private and public sector clients on consenting large regeneration and transport schemes, particularly where underpinned by compulsory purchase. Danny has been advising on some of the first large schemes in the South West area offering 10+% biodiversity net gain in anticipation of the new rules under the Environment Act formally coming into effect.

William Upton KC leads the Public, Planning and Environmental Law team in chambers, and his experience ranges across the civil and criminal courts, as well as planning inquiries. He has a particular interest in the overlap between planning and environmental law, and the regulatory control of land use.

Richard Banwell is a barrister practising in planning, environmental and regulatory law.

Brendon Moorhouse works exclusively as an environmental barrister and has been involved in significant waste and water criminal cases as well as working in civil environmental permitting and regulation.

This event is organised by the Environmental Law and Sustainability Research Group of Bristol Law School (UWE Bristol) in collaboration with 6 Pump Court Chambers (London), Burges Salmon LLP and UKELA South-West.
