About the event
For the final Centre for Transport and Society (CTS) seminar of 2025 and of our series on Mobilities of Care, we are very glad to welcome Ellen Lagrell (University of Gothenburg). Please join us online for this event by registering your attendance.
Ellen is a researcher in Human Geography and her research interests centres on the role of mobility in everyday life, with a particular focus on the private car and the pre-conditions for mobility transitions. She writes:
This seminar draws on interviews with Swedish parents to reflect on the role of care and the car in travel for children's out-of-school activities. The concept mobility of care has been suggested to make visible the gendering of mobility that is often hidden in conventional travel data categories (Sanchez de Madariaga, 2013). Moving away from this bias can also help the understanding of car dependence ingrained in the juggling of activities in everyday life, not least for parents.
