Description

Join the University’s Grounds team as they plant more than 5,000 native wildflowers plants and bulbs, including oxeye daisies, bluebells and native tulips. Help to rewild our green spaces, providing food and habitats for insects, birds and small mammals for years to come.

We will provide gloves and tools, so just wear sensible footwear in case the ground is damp.

Meet at the Community garden between Walnut/Sycamore and Juniper accommodation.

There are dedicated sessions at Frenchay Campus on Monday 30 October and Bower Ashton, City Campus on Thursday 9 November from 12.00–14.00.

Drop in any time or if you are a group of students or staff and would like to come at another time during the 14 days, please contact richie.fluester@uwe.ac.uk.

About the project

Funding for a proportion of this project is provided by the West of England Combined Authority (WECA) for grassland biodiversity enhancement, utilising plug planting of high performing native pollinators in conjunction with bespoke grass cutting regimes designed to reduce soil fertility and promote species rich meadow grass.

For Phase one of the project, UWE Bristol have bought the plants. WECA have provided the polytunnels in which to grow the plants for future years – a total of 5,000 to be planted per year for five years, resulting in 50,000 square meters of meadowland.
