Studentship details

There is growing interest in novel dietary components that may favourably affect human health. This PhD studentship presents an exciting opportunity for a motivated PhD student to investigate the role and mechanism of action of dietary components on maintaining health and prevention or treatment of pathological conditions.

Through this studentship, the successful applicant will gain multidisciplinary training and extensive experience in diverse fields, including cell culture, microbiology, encapsulation of bioactives, and biochemical techniques.

Funding

The studentship is available from 1 October 2023 for a period of four years, subject to satisfactory progress and includes a tax exempt stipend, which is currently £18,622 (2023/24) per annum.

In addition, full-time Home tuition fees will be covered for up to four years (UK/Home Students only).

Eligibility

Applicants must have a BSc in Biological Sciences or an MSc in Biomedical sciences. The successful applicant will be expected to have experience of working in a laboratory, practical experience in molecular biology and biochemical techniques and cell culture.

Experience of working on multidisciplinary projects involving health aspects and knowledge of food-related areas would be of advantage.

The successful applicant will also be expected to work in a professional manner in a multi-disciplinary team and engage with academic and industry partners and other stakeholders.

This studentship covers full-time Home tuition fees only, and thus is eligible only for UK/Home applicants.
