Description
UWE Bristol is delighted to welcome Alex Blair (The Big Gay Al), queer cook, author and creator of Too Tired to Cook.
Food has always been at the centre of Alex's life and career, from cooking professionally to hosting supper clubs. But when chronic pain and fatigue arrived alongside long-standing health conditions, everyday tasks became increasingly challenging. After a simple dinner party left him in hospital the following day, Alex realised there was very little practical support available for people trying to feed themselves while managing illness, fatigue and limited energy.
In this engaging and honest session, Alex will share his personal journey, the inspiration behind Too Tired to Cook, and practical tips for nourishing ourselves. He will also introduce some of the ideas behind his book, including his "spoon-rated" recipes that help people choose meals based on the energy they have available.
The session will include:
- Alex's personal story and journey to becoming an author
- practical tips for cooking and eating with limited energy
- examples of recipes and approaches from Too Tired to Cook
- an opportunity to ask questions about fatigue, food, disability, chronic illness and Alex's experiences.
