About the event
In this lecture, Dr Wanda Wyporska will explore the intersections of history, family history and identities. Taking her own Anglo-Polish-Caribbean heritage and training as a historian as starting points, she argues for the importance of an interdisciplinary and inclusive approach.
The paper also explores the increasing relevance of DNA and genealogy in the debates about reparations and questions the categorisations of ethnicities and geographies.
Dr Wanda Wyporska is the Chief Executive of the Black Equity Organisation, and former CEO of the Society of Genealogists. She was shortlisted for the Katherine Briggs Folklore Award in 2014 for her book, Witchcraft in Early Modern Poland 1500-1800.
