IT equipment reuse scheme
Extending the life of IT equipment and addressing digital access needs across the University and wider community.
UWE Bristol reuses working IT equipment wherever possible. This helps reduce waste across the University and supports our commitment to the circular economy principles as part of our Strategy 2030.
Through the IT Equipment Reuse Scheme, we securely data-wipe and refurbish unwanted University devices. Refurnished laptops, desktops and other equipment are then:
- made available to students and staff at reduced cost
- donated to organisations and community partners.
Buy refurbished laptops - UWE students and staff
Students and staff can buy professionally refurbished laptops and other IT equipment through our approved refurbishment partner, the DTP Tech Store.

Terms and conditions
Support for students experiencing hardship
We know that digital access is essential for academic success. If you have been in care, are care experienced, or are experiencing financial hardship and struggling to access suitable digital equipment, we may be able to help.
Donations to charities and community organisations
We are building a network of local charities and social enterprises that can benefit from donated equipment.
Available equipment may include:
- PCs
- laptops
- projectors
- AV equipment
All equipment is securely data-wiped. We clearly describe the condition of each device before release.
Eligibility
To be eligible, the organisation must be community-based and able to clearly demonstrate how its work benefits local communities. At a minimum, we require a governing document that outlines these community-focused objectives, along with a management committee consisting of at least three unrelated members.
Eligible organisations include CICs, charities, CIOs, constituted groups and similar bodies. We also support public bodies, such as schools or local authorities, provided the activity is strictly non-profit and not for commercial purposes.
Location of organisation
Projects must benefit communities within a 50-mile radius of UWE Bristol, including:
- Bristol
- Bath
- North East Somerset
- North Somerset
- South Gloucestershire
- Wiltshire.
Organisations located further afield or overseas must be able to demonstrate a direct connection to a project or initiative led by a current UWE Bristol student or member of staff.
The requester will be responsible for ensuring the equipment reaches the intended recipients and must provide confirmation and evidence of delivery.
