Advancing Gender Equality at Bristol Business School

Since September 2025, Bristol Business School has been working with staff and students to better understand experiences of gender equality and inclusion, and to develop meaningful actions for change.

Through consultation, feedback and detailed data analysis, we reviewed our culture, policies and practices to identify both strengths and areas for improvement.

Women are well represented across many areas of the School, including senior leadership, and many staff and students report positive experiences of inclusion and belonging.

At the same time, we identified several areas where further action is needed. These include workload and wellbeing, confidence in promotion and progression processes, inequalities in student outcomes, and support for under represented groups through an intersectional lens.

Athena Swan provides an important opportunity to strengthen fairness, inclusion, wellbeing, career progression and student success across Bristol Business School. In March 2026, we submitted our Athena Swan Bronze application.

We were delighted to receive a Bronze Award on 31 July 2026, recognising our commitment to advancing gender equality and inclusion.

Our work continues through the delivery of our 2026–2030 Action Plan.
