Success for students at regional RTS Awards

UWE Bristol students celebrate winning the Best Drama category at the RTS West of England Student Awards

Students and graduates from UWE Bristol took home the top prize in four categories of the RTS West of England Student Awards held at Watershed in Bristol on 4 March 2024.

In the Animation category, all four shortlisted nominees were from UWE Bristol, with the prize going to ‘Doggerland’ by Michael Blake, who studied BA Animation.

Corinna Elleschild, Ellis Cate, Louis Barron-Forde, Charlie Guy-Wilson, Ilectra Zaloni, Tommy Hepp, Eve Morris, Andy Langley, and Nick Curtis-Purnell won the Drama category with ‘Skive’.

In the Saving the Planet category the winners were Tristan Patrick Sherfield, Alex Stevenson, Maurice A Wren, Robert Loud, Damien Fowler, and Greg Holden for their work ‘Forgotten Fibre’. 

‘Shmelvis’ by Bella Considine, Amy Smith, Fin Bromham, Emily Cavell-Griffiths, Pierre Antoine-Perichon, and Niall Power, took the top spot in Entertainment and Comedy Drama.

In addition, UWE Bristol School of Arts students won a further 12 Craft Awards:

Animation:

Doggerland: Sound, Writing, Editing, Directing – Michael Blake

Pest: Sound – Jack Woodman

Factual – short form:

Wicked and Bad: Editing – Aaron Botelho and Toni Lotta Groner

Long Live the Kings: Camerawork – Olivia Merrick, Editing – Austin Pickles, Producing – Robert Allen

Entertainment and Comedy Drama:

Shmelvis: Writing – Bella Considine, Producing – Amy Smith, Editing – Niall Power

Shroom Omelette: Production Design – Tom Beavis, Katie Brown, Arlo Bebbington-Wood, Ben Meehan, Camera – Zak Jespersen

Drama:

Skive: Writing – Corinna Elleschild, Directing – Corinna Elleshild, Cinematography – Charlie Guy-Wilson

Einstein’s Brain: Production Design – Christopher Lewin, Myla Morris, Cinematography – Ben Murphy

Inception of Silence: Production Design, Acting performance – cast

Saving the Planet:

Forgotten Fibre: Grading – Robert Loud, Camera Alex Stevenson, Sound- Maurice A Wren, Director – Tristan Patrick Sherfield, Producing – Tristan Patrick Sherfield

Additional Craft Awards in Drama:

Undying Love: Editing, Eben Holmes-Frodsham

Additional Craft Awards in Factual - Short Form:

A Dying Art: David Nash and The Ash Dome, Picture Post - Danny Hammond, Production Design – Finlay Walker
