UWE Bristol has risen to 14th in the People & Planet University League (UK), a jump of eleven places, maintaining its place in the table as a 'first class’ university.

The People & Planet University League is the only comprehensive and independent league table of UK universities ranked by environmental and ethical performance. It is compiled annually by the UK’s largest student campaigning network, People & Planet.

The league table evaluates universities on environmental policy, management of carbon and its sustainable food offering, among other categories.

UWE Bristol scored 100% in the ranking for staff and student engagement and environmental auditing & management systems, two of the specific categories ranked within the league table. Education for sustainable development and carbon management are areas UWE Bristol also scored over 90%.

Pro-Vice Chancellor & Head of College of Arts, Technology and Environment, Professor Elena Marco said: “We have risen to 14th place in the People & Planet League Table, continuing to demonstrate that we are a first-class university. This achievement reflects a tremendous team effort — not only from the sustainability team but from everyone across the institution who made this possible.

“I am so proud to see how we are embedding sustainability into all our practices, making steady incremental improvements, and maintaining a transparent approach to what we can and cannot achieve. Truly exceptional.”
