Gestural musical gloves developed at UWE Bristol to feature at prestigious science exhibition

Groundbreaking gestural musical glove technology originally developed at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), will be exhibited at the Summer Science Exhibition 2025 in London from 1 – 6 July.
Dr Tom Mitchell, Professor of Audio and Music Interaction at UWE Bristol, and Dr Dom Potts, research fellow, have been invited to join Drake Music – a pioneering charity for accessible music technology – as part of their exhibition stand. Together, they will demonstrate the capabilities of MiMU Gloves - wearable technology that enables users to compose and perform music through movement.
Originally developed by Dr Mitchell in collaboration with Grammy Award-winning artist Imogen Heap, the MiMU Gloves use motion capture and artificial intelligence to create music. The technology was developed and commercialised by MiMU in 2019 and has been used by artists such as Ariana Grande.
Tom said: "We are delighted to be attending the Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition. The exhibition will give us the opportunity to engage with new audiences and to demonstrate some of the research that we have been doing in partnership with Drake Music, breaking down barriers to music performance."
Dr Tom Mitchell is continuing to develop his work by producing new technologies and methods that will invite broader participation in the development of new musical instruments and future visions of musicianship.
