UWE Bristol is proud to celebrate the remarkable achievements of its filmmaking alum Hugo Pettitt, who has won a 2025 BAFTA TV Award.

Hugo is the series producer of Channel 4’s critically acclaimed documentary series ‘To Catch a Copper’, which won BAFTA’s Best Factual Series category at a recent ceremony in London.

He graduated from UWE Bristol’s BA (Hons) Filmmaking programme in 2014 and has gone on to forge a successful career as an award-winning producer specialising in high-end television, primarily documentaries. As well as working on ‘To Catch a Copper’, his other credits include the BBC’s ‘Drugsland’, ‘The Outlaws’, and ‘Police Custody USA’ for Channel 4 and Investigation Discovery.

Hugo regularly returns to the university’s filmmaking course to discuss his journey and share his industry insights with the students.

Hugo said: "I am over the moon with this recognition by BAFTA for my Channel 4 series To Catch a Copper as Best Factual Series. I owe a lot to both UWE Filmmaking and the city of Bristol for this success. Every year I look forward to supporting the new cohort of students with talks or industry guidance, which hopefully inspires the next generation of documentary makers to do what they love."

Vanessa Bewley, UWE Bristol Programme Leader BA Filmmaking, added: “We’re so thrilled to see Hugo and the team win this award – it’s so well deserved. From winning a Student RTS Award for his short documentary whilst on the filmmaking course, and working on groundbreaking BBC documentaries here in Bristol, to producing for Story Films and winning a BAFTA - what a decade. Totally inspiring for the next generation of filmmakers to come out of UWE Bristol and we are so proud of him.”
