Use OneDrive for large file submissions

Use a OneDrive link to add large file submissions to Blackboard.

Large files (typically over 100MB) are not suitable for uploading directly to Blackboard.

To submit a large file, you need to:

  • save your submission to your UWE Bristol OneDrive (not a personal OneDrive)
  • share your submission from your UWE Bristol OneDrive
  • submit a link to the file in Blackboard.

Test run

We advise you to carry out a test run of this process before your final submission, just to be sure it is all working as you would expect, and you are familiar with the process.

  1. Prepare your assessment for submission. If the submission has multiple files or folders, you may want to create a single zip containing all the files.
  2. Upload the file to your UWE Bristol OneDrive. Do not use a personal OneDrive or any other cloud storage provider.
  3. Find the file and select share.
  4. Click on the cog icon on the copy link button and set the share permissions to people in UWE Bristol. Do not set an expiry date, password or block downloads.
  5. Select apply, then copy link, which should automatically copy the link to the clipboard.
  6. Follow the Blackboard submission process. In the submission text box, paste the copied OneDrive link. Don’t use the browse button to select your file.
  7. Select submit.
  8. Check your receipt in the Blackboard coursework area. From the receipt, select view full submission. You should see your OneDrive link. Make sure you can open the link to your OneDrive and your files.

After the submission due date

Important: After the due date, you must not move, delete or edit the file or your submission will be invalid.

For this reason, store your submitted files in a clearly named folder in your OneDrive so you know not to edit it after submission.
