As we step into 2026, we would like to jointly reiterate our commitment to supporting all our students and staff. In an increasingly polarised society, we want everyone to feel safe at UWE Bristol.

We remain deeply concerned whenever we hear reports of hate incidents nationally and locally, including racism, ableism, and hostility towards LGBTQIA+ communities. These acts of hate have no place in our society, and they have no place at UWE Bristol.

We recognise the fear and anxiety that many colleagues and students, particularly those from marginalised groups, experience when hate incidents are reported. We want to acknowledge these feelings and make our position clear: hatred of any kind towards any individual or group will not be tolerated here.

As organisations that are committed to anti-racism and inclusion, and as staff and student representatives, we welcome staff and students into our community from across the world. We are united in our commitment to creating a safe, inclusive environment where everyone can work, study, and thrive, free from hatred.

Our message is clear: hate has no place here. We will challenge all forms of discrimination, harassment and victimisation wherever they occur, and we will support those affected and take action to prevent it.

This is not a political statement, it is about our shared responsibility to staff, students, and the wider community. We ask everyone to make a personal commitment to make sure everyone feels like they belong, to keep learning, champion inclusion, and challenge hate in all its forms. Together, we can make a difference in making UWE Bristol a vibrant, diverse community.

Let’s stand together against hate and ensure UWE Bristol remains a place where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued.
