Walter Guy

Research Technician

Walter was appointed in July 2018 as a full-time technician to work on the EPSRC funded project Woodbury and Lippmann: A new approach to continuous tone and full colour non-impact printing. The team will be working on the reinvention of old printing technologies, such as Woodburytype and Lippmann photography. By transferring the principals of historic, high quality, continuous tone printing processes to 2.5 D non-impact printing and the formulation of special inks they will test the production of high quality prints for advertising, packaging, fashion and, at the same time, include fake-proof security features

Working as part of the CFPR team with Dr Susanne Klein FInstP, Walter will be responsible for smooth running of the laboratory space and equipment. His role includes undertaking physical modification of the printers, daily maintenance of equipment and health and safety risk requirements in the lab.

Walter was awarded a first class honours degree in BSc. Architectural Technology and Design from UWE in in 2010. He joins us from the University of Bath where he has been working as Senior Technician in woodwork and timber engineering in their Architecture and Civil Engineering Department. He has previously worked as a CAD technician and joiner at Touchwood Enterprises in Bristol and conservation stonemason at Gloucester Cathedral.
