Walter's pot, 'Montieth on Base', was inspired by an 18th century Staffordshire creamware Montieth: a large bowl with scalloped edges for resting the bowls of wine glasses in ice. The name comes from a Scotsman named Montieth who wore a cloak with scalloped edges, (whilst at Oxford during the reign of Charles II). Walter was also interested in the tortoiseshell glazes on some of the pots he handled.
