Cups, porcelain

Maria had to search hard to find an object she really liked. What appealed to her about the piece she finally chose was the form, created from two conical shapes. She also liked the play of positive and negative created by the lines of the basket, and noticed how common this lattice pattern is in English ceramics from Thomas Toft onwards. She experimented with the form , with and without a handle, aiming 'to make it thin and delicate, because one of the qualities of the pot that I saw was its delicacy.' She decided to develop her piece by applying silk-screen transfers derived from photographs of the metal lattice work found on cranes.
